Here are a few crafts that can be used when you are teaching children about worship. They are not difficult to make and require few materials with little preparation.
A House of Worship
Materials:
- A piece of tag board for each child
- Markers
- Tape
- Stapler
Directions:
- Explain to the children that our bodies are a house of worship to God.
- Have the children find 1Peter 2:5 in their Bibles and read it.
- On the tag board have the children write their names and decorate it to look like a brick.
- When they have finished, tape or stable the bricks together.
- Attach the bricks to a wall.
- Label the wall, "We are being built into a house of worship."
We are God's Church
Materials:
- Big pieces of butcher paper
- Markers
- Scissors
Directions:
- Ask the children what makes a church? Response: A group of people who love and worship God.
- Divide the children by partners. One child lies on the butcher paper, while the partner traces around them. Then switch places. If time permits, let the children add in their features.
- When done, have the children cut out their shape.
- Hang all of the children in a hallway with the title, "We are God's Church"
Marshmallow Altars
Materials:
- Marshmallows
- Peanut butter
- Plastic knives
- Paper plates
Directions:
- Ask the children why an altar was used for worship? Reponse: It was an old way to make a sacrifice to God.
- Have children find Genesis 8:20-21a in the Bibles and read the verses.
- Give each child a paper plate with a scoop of peanut butter and several marshmallows. Let them create their own altar.
- If time permits, they can it there craft or take it home.
Bible Scroll
Materials:
- Parchment like paper
- Two dowel rods for each child
- pens and/or glitter glue
Directions:
- How did reading from scrolls show worship to God? Response: Keeping in God's Word shows that we love Him.
- Have the children look up Psalm 119:105 in their Bibles. Give each child a pen and a piece of parchment paper, and have them write the verse on the paper. They can decorate the paper with pens or glitter glue.
- Attach the dowel rods to each end with tape and roll each end to meet in the middle. You might want to secure the scroll with a rubber band.
Make a Joyful Noise - Cymbals
Materials:
- Permanent markers (a variety of colors)
- Felt pieces cut into 2x5-inch strips - two for each child
- Two 9-inch aluminum pie pans for each child
- Four paper fasteners (brads) for each child
Directions:
- Ask the children if it is okay to play instruments to worship God? Response: Yes.
- Have the children look up 2Samuel 6:5 in their Bibles and read it.
- Tell the children to use the permanent markers to decorate their cymbals
- With teacher supervision, help the children fasten their felt strips to the aluminum pans with the paper fasteners, so they can use the strips to hold their cymbals.
- Make a joyful noise unto the Lord!
