What fun to combine select ingredients and come up with a wonderful present for anyone! Kids will enjoy making this craft as much as they will giving it away.

Cookie mix in a jar is a great idea for all sorts of occasions. It is something that even little kids can become involved in with adult supervision. Older kids can do it on their own.

Best Ever Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar

Directions:

  1. Combine the flour, baking soda, white sugar, and the chocolate chips.
  2. Place 1/2 of the mixture in a clean quart sized glass jar, and pack firmly.
  3. Place the brown sugar on top, again packing firmly.
  4. Place the remaining flour mixture on top. Cover with a lid.

Attach an index card with the following directions:

Empty contents of jar into a large bowl. In separate bowl combine 3/4 cup of butter, 1 1/2 eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat until creamy. Add to dry mixture. Drop by tablespoonful onto an ungreased cookie sheet, and bake in a preheated 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) oven for 8 to 10 minutes. Makes 2 dozen.

Candy Cookie Mix

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 tsp. powdered vanilla
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 cup candy bar chunks (Reese's peanut butter cups, Butterfinger bars, white or milk chocolate chunks)

Directions:

  1. Fill jar with sugar at the bottom.
  2. Layer the brown sugar next, packing it down firmly.
  3. Combine powdered vanilla, baking soda, and flour in bowl. Add this mixture to the top of the jar.
  4. Round off the top of the jar with candy pieces.

You will need:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 jar Candy Cookie Mix

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In the large bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter until it is smooth. Add the egg, and continue beating until the egg is combined. Add the Candy Cookie Mix and candy bar chunks and blend on low just until the cookie mix is incorporated. Form the cookies into 1 1/2-inch balls & place them 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until golden on the edges. Remove from oven, and cool on cookie sheet for 2 minutes. Makes 3 dozen.

Oatmeal Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups rolled oats
  • 1 1/2 cups shortening

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, salt, brown sugar and oats.
  2. Blend in the shortening so that it is fully absorbed.
  3. Store this mixture in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 8 weeks in a cool dry place.

Attach an index card with the following directions:

Prepare cookies from the mix using the following recipe. Use: 2 cups of cookie mix, 1 egg, beaten, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 cup of chocolate chips, coconut, raisins or nuts. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Grease cookie sheet. In a large bowl, stir together the cookie mix, egg, vanilla and the additions of your choice. Drop by rounded spoonfuls onto the prepared cookie sheet. Flatten slightly with a fork. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven. Cool on wire racks. Makes about 2 dozen.

Peanut Butter and Chocolatel Chip Cookie Mix

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter chips
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. Mix together the flour, baking powder and baking soda in a medium bowl. Set aside.
  2. Layer ingredients in order given in a one quart canning jar. Press each layer into place. It will be a tight.

Attach an index card with the following directions:

Sift out the chips and set aside. Empty remaining cookie mix into large mixing bowl. Use your hands to thoroughly blend mix. Add 1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened at room temperature. Add in 1 egg, slightly beaten, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix until completely blended. Mix in chips or peanut butter cups. Shape into walnut sized balls. Place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 375 degrees F for 12 to 14 minutes until edges are lightly browned. Cool 5 minutes on baking sheet. Remove cookies to racks to finish cooling. Makes 2 1/2 dozen cookies.
