Here are some fun crafts that you and your toddler can do together. They are simple and require very few materials. Just right for little hands!

These crafts require very little, if any preparation. Just dive in and have some fun with your toddler today!

Bag of Hearts

Materials: Colored paper, paper lunch bag, ribbon, markers

Directions:

Cut paper hearts out of colored paper. Decorate the lunch bag by gluing on the colored paper hearts. To make handles: Cut two pieces of ribbon, cut holes in the bag, thread the ribbon through the holes and then knot the ends.

Child's Dough Handprints

Materials: 2 cups flour, 1 cup salt, 1 cup water; food coloring of choice, metallic marker; wax paper; ribbon to match color of dough

Directions:

In a large bowl, add food coloring to water, then add the flour and salt. Mix well, until mixture is smooth. Dough should be stiff, in order for it to bake correctly. Shape dough into the form of a ball, then roll out to a thickness of about 1/2 inch. Take child’s hand and press her spread out hand into the dough. Don’t press too hard, or you might press through to the bottom of the dough! Place on a cookie sheet. Next, make two small holes in the top of the dough, about 1/2 inch apart. This is where the colored ribbon will be strung through. Bake in a 200-degree oven for approximately 2-1/2 hours. When done, dough should be rather hard. Be careful not to over bake. Place on waxed paper to cool. When the dough is cooled, write the child’s name in metallic marker at the top and the year at the bottom.

Colored Pasta and Rice Shapes

Put pasta/rice in a ziplock bag. Add small amount of rubbing alcohol. Add drops of food coloring (the more drops, the darker the color). Shake bag to color pasta/rice. Dry on a paper plate or paper towel. This will not leave the pasta/rice sticky as soaking it in water can!

Dry-Erase Designs

Use Dry-Erase markers to draw on mirrors! Besides designs and scribbles, try drawing silly faces with strange hats, mustaches and beards, etc. Line your face up with the ones you drew to see how silly you look!

Photo Placemats

Materials: Poster board (any color), photographs, laminating sheets, craft glue

Directions:

Cut poster board to appropriate sizes, put glue on the back of photos and help the child lay them out on the poster board. Then laminate the board. These make great gifts! The child may also personalize the mat by writing a little note or signing them.

Sand Designs

On colored paper (construction paper works best) have child make a design with white glue. Then sprinkle sand on the glue. Suggestion: sprinkle in some sparkles into the sand before hand.
