Fun Things for Kids to Make

Here are some unique Bible crafts that you can use for various Bible lessons. They require inexpensive materials, but do take some time to make. They are worth it!

Tissue Cards: Church Staff Appreciation

Materials:

  • Card stock
  • Tissue paper (variety of colors)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Yarn
  • Ribbon

Directions:

  1. Fold a piece of card stock in half. Use a pencil to draw a large flower (leave room at the bottom for a yarn stem) on the front of the card.
  2. Cut out 30 to 40 squares of colored tissue paper. Have children scrunch the squares into balls and glue onto the flower. Continue until flower is covered.
  3. For stems, glue pieces of green yarn to the card stock, extending from underneath the bottom of the flower. Make leaves with green tissue paper.

Paper Bible Buddies: Any Bible Story

Materials:

  • Cardboard boxes
  • Pencil
  • Glue
  • Safety scissors
  • Assorted craft supplies (decorative paper, doilies, cupcake liners, ribbon, fabric, yarn)
  • Markers
  • Self-adhesive Velcro coins (craft store)

Directions:

  1. Draw a paper-doll on a sturdy cardboard box or a piece of cardstock, then cut out.
  2. Draw your own clothing on scraps of decorative paper or fabric, and cut out. You lots of browns, tans, and blues for usual Bible clothes. Decorate clothes with ribbon, doilies, and rickrack.
  3. To make it easy to change outfits, attach self-adhesive Velcro coins to the doll's body and to the backs of the clothing.
  4. To create several faces, cut out a circle sized to fit the doll's head. Use a marker to make a face, glue on yarn for hair, and attach with self-adhesive Velcro coins.

Sun Prints - Creation (This craft has to be done over a weeklong period.)

Materials:

  • Colored construction paper
  • Leaves (not crinckled)
  • Glue stick
  • Masking tape
  • Picture frames

Directions:

  1. Put some glue onto the back of a leaf, and attach to a piece of construction paper.
  2. Tape the paper to a sunny window, with the leaf facing out. Leave up for a week. The paper's color will fade a bit over this time period.
  3. Remove from window and gently peel leaf off to reveal the print. Frame and hang.

Bible Banner: Memory Verse activity

Materials:

  • Dry beans
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Twigs
  • Pinecones
  • 8 1/2 x 11 inch colored art paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Tape
  • Raffia, yarn, or ribbon (to hang the banner)

Directions:

  1. Make a flag for each letter of your message. Fold in the corners on each end of a piece of paper so that they meet in the middle.
  2. Fold in the long edges of the paper as if making a paper airplane. Make sharp creases so the flag looks neat and hangs straight.
  3. On the smooth side of each flag, print one letter of your message in pencil. Have your child glue objects onto each letter. Let dry.
  4. Cut a length of raffia (or yarn or ribbon) long enough to fit your message. To attach letters, have your child flip over each flag and fold the top portion down over the length of raffia. Tape to secure.
  5. To finish, knot a short length of raffia between each letter. Hang in your classroom!

Cheerful Napkin Rings: Last Supper or any story having to do with food

Materials:

  • Empty toilet paper
  • 2x7-inch strip of construction paper (any color)
  • Glue
  • Fruit Loops cereal

Directions:

  1. To make 2 napkin rings, cut an empty toilet roll in half.
  2. Cut out a 2x7-inch strip of colored paper, and glue to ring.
  3. Glue on colorful ring-shaped cereal to finish.

Tip: Give children some Fruit Loops as a snack, so they won't eat the ones that have glue on them!
