From flip flops to tennis shoes fancy shoes are all the rage. Decorate yours for some fancy footwork.

Fancy Feet on the Go

Look around in the department stores and shoe stores today and you will see all kinds of fancy flip flops and tennis shoes. They have paint on them, sparkles and spangles, gems hanging from them, fancy fur and a good many other type of wild and wacky decorations. But why spend big bucks for those expensive department store shoes? Decorate you own and you can have tennis shoes to match all of your favorite outfits, jackets or purses.

What you will need:

  • tennis or deck shoes - you can choose white, red, black or any other color you want. White works well if you are going to paint on them and goes with everything.
  • fabric paints - there are the kind that brushes on and the scribble paints you can draw and write with. Make sure they are for fabric.
  • fabric glue
  • fabric markers or crayons
  • optional - colorful patches and decals, felt or fabric cutouts, sequins, ribbon, shiny jewels, rick rack, lace, fur trim

What you do:

1. First decide on your color scheme. Are your shoes going to be red and white, match your favorite sundress or have a flower theme? Once you have a theme picked out now you can move to the next step.

2. Decide on the accessories you want and how you are going to decorate your tennis hoes. Plan this out carefully and lay things on the shoes in different ways BEFORE gluing things in place.

3. Paint the shoes first. If you are going to paint anything on your tennis shoes you want to do this before adding the other things. Allow the paint to dry thoroughly before finishing.

4. Now you can add your lace and trim. Glue rick-rack, fake fur or lace around the edge of the opening of your shoes, along the seam lines or across the toes.

5. Add the extra sparkle. Glue on sequins, fabric flowers, sparkly jewels or patches. This is where your personality will shine through. For the finishing touch add ribbon or fancy shoelaces if your tennis shoes needs them. String some charms onto your tennis shoes for extra sparkle.

Enjoy Your Fancy New Shoes

You can make shoes that are fun, match an outfit, have an animal theme, or camouflage theme. Why not throw a girl's night party for your friends and have them bring a pair of new shoes and decorate your shoes together. The possibilities are only limited to the number of shoes your closet can hold!!
