Spring is the time for planting a garden. It doesn't matter whether you live in the city, in the country or someplace in between, you can still do some type of gardening. Kids love planting things and watching them grow. if you live in the city or someplace where you do not have a yard to plant a garden in you can grow some things in a container. Kids can grow potted plants or herbs.
If you have a small porch or yard you can still grow a garden in a pot. There are tomatoes, strawberries and other plants that are designed specifically to grow in a container. Certain types of green beans can grow up a trellis as well as cucumbers and miniature melons.
Other fun and easy plants for kids to grow in a regular garden include green beans, radishes and green onions, zucchini, cherry tomatoes and pumpkins. Gourds are fun too. You will want to make a funny face garden stake for each row or area in your garden. Draw the vegetable you are planting, such as a tomato, on your stick. Now color it with permanent markers. Use craft glue to glue on some wiggly eyes and staple in some yarn for hair. Get creative and make your fruits and vegetables look fun and interesting.

Make a small loop on the end of the pipe cleaner and bend it flat so it makes a base. Glue your pom pom onto this base. Now add mini wiggly eyes, wax paper wings, pipe cleaner legs or whatever you like. Now wrap the rest of the pipe cleaner around the stake and place in your yard.

Paint your rocks to look like ladybugs, beetles or simply in colorful designs. Let the rocks dry thoroughly. Now spray the rocks with the clear shellac so they are waterproof. Place throughout your garden. You can also place these on your porch or even make a path with them in your yard.
