What happens when you want to build a snowman and there is no snow outside? You use marshmallows of course! Then you can eat your snowman instead of watching him melt.

Winter is a wondrous time of year. With it comes Christmas, snowflakes, crisp, cold weather, parties and fun. And one of the best activities of all during the winter months is to build a snowman. But what can you do if you want to build a snowman and there is no snow? You may even live somewhere that is never, ever snows. How can you have the fun of building a snowman?

Well, it's easier than you think. The very first step you take is to the grocery store to pick up a bag of white, fluffy marshmallows. Get the large ones and then just for fun buy a bag of miniature ones too. Now go home, rip open the bag and begin building your very own village of snowmen, snow ladies and snowbabies. And what's even better than a real snowman made of snow is these snowmen won't melt. But if you do decide you don't want them around anymore simply pop them into you mouth and chew. YUMM!

How to Make Marshmallow Snowman

This is the ingredient list for one snowman. Multiply the ingredients for how many you want to make.

What you need: (per snowman)

  • Three large marshmallows
  • Miniature round candy
  • Red skinny rope licorice
  • Round gummy candies
  • Thin pretzel sticks

How to put your snowman together:

  1. Use the thin pretzel sticks to put the snowman body together. They will anchor the body and hold it together. Place a pretzel stick into the bottom of one of the large marshmallows. Now stick this onto the top of the next one. Repeat until the three marshmallows are stacked on top of each other just like the snowballs on a snowman's body.
  2. Next, make a face with the miniature candies, Push them into the top marshmallow for eyes, nose and mouth. You can also draw these on the head with decorator icing.
  3. Then, break a thin pretzel stick in half and put pretzel stick arms into the sides of the snowman. This would be the middle marshmallow. The red rope licorice is the snowman's scarf. Tie the licorice scarf around his neck.
  4. Last, break another thing pretzel stick into two pieces. Place one end into the round gummy candy gumdrop. This is the snowman's hat. Push the other end of the pretzel stick into the top of the snowman's head.

You can use the miniature marshmallows to make tiny snowman. You can make and eat these or insert an ornament hook into the gumdrop and hang on the tree. If you want to preserve the snowman for years to come spray with a clear sealant. Be sure to use the sealant in an open room with plenty of ventilation. This is a great group craft for scouts, 4-H clubs, or Christmas parties.
