Warm weather means time spent playing at the beach. And when you go to the beach you need something to carry all those supplies in. What beach trip would be right without sand toys, sun tan lotions and a beach ball? Now kids can make their own with waterproof beach bag from a garbage bag. It's a fun creative kids craft.
Waterproof Beach Bag for Kids
You will need:
- heavy duty 13 gallon white garbage bag
- colored duct tape – you can buy duct tape in all kinds of colors from your local hardware store – 2 different colors
- scissors
- permanent marker
- measuring tape
- white cotton cording – you need four 2 foot pieces
What you do:
- You want to make one large sheet of plastic. To do this cut the garbage bag down one side and across the bottom. Lay this large piece of plastic out on a table and tape it down so it stays in place.
- Measure and draw a rectangle on the bag – 16 inches by 30 inches. Now starting at the top (the 16 inches wide part) run a strip of duct from the top down to the bottom. Repeat alternating the two different colors of duct tape overlapping them slightly until you have done the whole bag.
- Cut out the rectangle from the bag and turn it over so the wrong side is facing up.
- Next lay 2 pieces of the white cotton cording across the top. Fold down a flap over the cording and tape into place. Don't tape the cord itself. Do this with the other 2 pieces of cording on the opposite end. You are doing this on the narrow ends of the rectangle. Make sure you leave a piece of cording hanging from each end like a drawstring.
- Now fold your bag in half and tape the sides up to the drawstring. Take one end of a the cording from one side and match it to a piece from the other side and tie in a know. Repeat and then do the same thing on the other side.
Fun in the Sun
Now you are ready for some fun in the sun. Your drawstring bag is ready to go and is waterproof inside and out! Now you can load up your beach gear and head for the local beach or pool. These waterproof beach bags are so easy to make you might want to make one for each member of the family. Use permanent marker to write your name on the beach bag or to decorate your bag. You could also cut out fun shapes from other colors of duct tape and place them on your beach bag like stickers.
