Here are more toddler crafts that require very little, if any preparation. Just dive in and have some fun with your toddler today!
Materials: Two toilet paper rolls, glue, yarn (optional)
Directions: Take two empty toilet paper rolls and glue them together. If the eye pieces are too close together for your little one, try gluing something between the two rolls... a piece of a sponge is one idea. You may also have to wrap the rolls together with construction paper, tape, or yarn to hold them in place.
Materials: Pine cones (1 or more depending on how many you want to make), jar of peanut butter, butter knife, spoon or Popsicle sticks (for spreading peanut butter), birdseed, sewing thread or long strand of Yarn
Directions: Tie string around pine cone (long enough to hang from a tree branch or wherever you plan to hang it). Spread peanut butter over pine cone. Roll peanut butter covered pine cone in bird seed. Hang somewhere children can watch as birds eat the birdseed from their new feeder.
Materials: 2 cups soap flakes (or grated soap), 1 gallon water, 1/4 to 1/2 cup glycerin, 2 cups shampoo or liquid dishwashing detergent, scented oil
Directions: Mix the soap flakes, water and 2 tbsp glycerin in a pot and set over low heat. Stir occasionally until the soap has dissolved. In a bowl, add 2 cups of this mixture to the rest of the glycerin and shampoo. Add a few drops of scented oil. Put into a quart container and store covered at room temperature. When ready to use, add one cup to the tub as it is filling.
Materials: Clean coffee mug (a plastic gardening scoop may be substituted for the mug), bite-sized candy, colored Saran Wrap, yarn, construction paper, hole punch
Directions: Let your toddler fill the mug with some candy. If the mug is going to be given as a gift, make a name tag out of a small square of construction paper. Carefully punch a hole in one corner of the tag with the whole punch. Center the mug in the middle of a large square of Saran Wrap. Draw the wrap tightly around the mug. Twist the excess wrap tightly together close to the top of the mug. Tie a piece of yarn around the twisted part of the Saran Wrap. Tie the name tag to one end of the yarn. Spread out the remaining Saran Wrap above the yarn. Give the mug as a Mother’s Day gift or to a grandparent or special baby-sitter.
Materials: Construction paper, craft scissors, tape, washable markers or crayons, yarn, small pieces of ribbon
Directions: Cut a piece of construction paper to approximately 8”x8”. Let your toddler decorate the front of the kite with the markers or crayons. On the undecorated side of the construction paper, tape an 8” piece of yarn to one end of the paper. Cut several small pieces of ribbon. Tie the pieces of ribbon to the yarn, spacing them out equally. Hang the kite from the ceiling or on your toddler’s bedroom wall.
