Fun and Easy Projects for Little Hands

Here is a collection of some fun hands-on preschool Bible crafts. They require simple-to-find materials and require little preparation on your part. Let's get to work!

Smiling Sun: Creation

Materials:

  • Scissors
  • Yellow and blue construction paper
  • Glue
  • Crayons
  • Foam egg carton

Directions:

  1. Cut a big yellow circle for the sun's head. Glue the circle onto the blue construction paper.
  2. Use a crayon to draw a happy face on the sun. Draw sun rays all around the circle.
  3. Tear the foam egg carton into small pieces.
  4. Dot glue onto the sun rays that were already drawn, and glue on the foam pieces. Let dry.

House Night Light: Creation or Light of the World Theme

Materials:

  • 1 quart juice or milk carton (washed and dried)
  • 9 inch x 12 inch piece of construction paper (whatever color you desire)
  • Tape
  • Crayons
  • Small knife (for adult use)
  • 1 rectangular piece of construction paper
  • Glue
  • Flashlight

Directions:

Preparation: Cut the bottom out of the carton so that a flashlight can stand up in it.

  1. One side of the carton top will be open for pouring. Open the other side of the carton, as well, so the whole top is opened.
  2. Lay the empty carton on the 9 inch x 12 inch piece of construction paper. Wrap the paper around the carton and tape it in place. Now shut the top again by folding it in its original position. Tape it in place.
  3. Use a crayon to draw some windows, a door, or other features on your house. Have an adult cut out the windows, doors, etc. with a small knife.
  4. For the roof of the house, fold the rectangular piece of construction paper in half and glue it to the top of the carton.
  5. Now decorate the house any way you like and put over the flashlight.

Magic Scratch-Off Picture: Any Bible Story

Materials:

  • White poster board paper
  • Crayons
  • Paper towel
  • Newspaper or butcher paper
  • Paintbush
  • Liquid soap
  • Black tempera paint
  • Pencil or toothpick

Directions:

  1. Cover a workspace with either newspaper or butcher paper.
  2. Use a yellow crayon to a line across the poster board in about a 3-inch space from top to bottom. Press the crayon firmly so the area is completely covered with a heavy coating of yellow.
  3. Below the yellow crayon, draw any picture you like; for instance, a playground, a church scene, your house, etc. Brush off an flecks of crayon that on the paper with a paper towel.
  4. Mix a very small amount of liquid soap with the black paint. The soap helps the paint stick to the waxy crayon surface. Use a paintbrush to paint over the yellow crayon. Let dry thoroughly.
  5. Using a pencil or toothpick, you can now make designs on the paper by scratching through the black pain and revealing the yellow.
  6. Of course, you can think of a ton of variations to this fun project!

Calico Sheep: Noah's Ark or Parables

Materials:

  • Pencil
  • 8-1/2 x 11 piece of white cardstock paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Crayons
  • Cotton balls (different colored ones at most craft stores)
  • Small pieces of black felt
  • Black tempera paint
  • 2 spring clothespins

Directions:

  1. For the sheep's head, draw a small oval on the cardstock paper. Draw a bigger oval for the sheep's body. Cut the two ovals out. Glue the head to the body. Draw the sheep's eyes, nose, and mouth with crayons.
  2. Use scraps of black felt to make ears for the sheep, by cutting a small piece of felt and gluing it to the top of sheep's head, so the ears hang down. Make a tail for the sheep by using small, thin strips of black felt glued to the back of the sheep.
  3. Put some glue on side of the sheep's body and place the cotton balls on the glue. Place the cotton balls close together so the entire side is covered. Turn the sheep over and repeat on the other side. Let dry.
  4. Make the sheep's legs by clipping to clothespins to the bottom of the animal. Paint the clothespins black for the sheep's legs.

Vegetable and Fruit Prints: Teaching About the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14) or Creation

Materials:

  1. White cardstock paper
  2. Fabric paints (various colors)
  3. Whipped cream containers
  4. Vegetables and fruits of different shapes and sizes
  5. Kitchen knife (adult use)

Directions:

Preparation: Adult to cut the vegetables and fruits in half.

  1. Put different colors of fabric paint in containers. Lids can be used as blotters.
  2. Dip the fruits and vegetables (stamps) into the paint and touch on the lid (blotter) to make sure it is even.
  3. Use the stamps to make flowers, people, animals, etc.

Variation: You can put these stamps onto T-shirts or an apron.
