Make Bookmarks and More With These Fun Summertime Crafts

With summer all around the ideas for crafting are abundant!

Summer provides plenty of themes and ideas for summer crafting. Ladybugs, sunflowers, rainbows, the beach - they are all great themes for craft ideas. Summer time also provides lots of crafting material. The beach offers up seashells, sand , sea glass and bits of driftwood. Nature provides twigs, stones, leaves and pebbles to make things with. Flowers are great for pressing and making all types of wonderful projects. Read on to discover some great ideas for summer crafts you can make.

Flower Pressed Book Marks

What you need:

  • card stock or construction paper
  • dried pressed flowers or flower petals
  • ribbon or yarn
  • glue
  • contact paper or a laminator
  • paper hole punch

What you do:

  1. First you cut out several book mark shapes from the card stock. You can use the typical rectangle shape or get creative. Your book marks can be in the shape of a huge flower or an oval. It is up to you.
  2. Lay out the dried, pressed flowers on the book mark in a pleasing manner. Do not glue them down until you are sure where you want them. Glue the flowers in place. Now decorate your book mark with markers, crayons - even glitter.
  3. Trace a shape a little bit bigger than your book mark out of the contact paper. Cover your book mark with the contact paper. If you have a laminator you can laminate your book mark.
  4. Punch a hole in top of the book mark. Cut a piece of ribbon or yarn to hang out of the book. Tie it in the hole.

Now give your book to a friend or use it in your own favorite book to read this summer.

Make Your Own Note Cards

Follow the basics for making book marks only use folded card stock or construction paper. Decorate the note cards by adding a pressed flower in the corner. Decorate the envelope to match the notecard. Now you have some lovely stationary. You can use this idea to make all types of stationary from note cards to invitations.

Make a Shadow Box

You can make a shadow bow of different things from nature. Small pieces of twigs or rocks, pressed flowers even small tiny dried flowers. You can make your own shadow box or you can purchase one. A picture frame will work too. These are perfect items for a shadow box. Find some treasures from your favorite vacation and make a shadow box to remember your vacation.
